for soprano soloist, mixed choir, and small orchestra or chamber ensemble This is one of the best-loved and most widely performed choral works of the twentieth century. The texts (in Latin and English) are from the Missa pro Defunctis, the Book of Common Prayer, and the Psalms. The seven sections form an arch-like meditation on the themes of life and death: prayers on behalf of all humanity, psalms, personal prayers to Christ, and in the central Sanctus an affirmation of divine glory. The full scores have been edited and engraved by the composer himself and are presented in handsome, cloth-bound editions. Vocal and orchestral material is available on hire.

John Rutter's arrangement of Fauré's Requiem
This is a vocal score for soprano and baritone solo with SATB chorus and organ accompaniment of the 1893 version of Fauré's Requiem, edited by John Rutter in 1983 and published by OUP. It includes both the Latin words and an English translation by Rutter. It is clearly laid out and printed. Note that it differs from the 1975 Novello version edited by Desmond Ratcliffe in layout, tempo, dynamics, and rehearsal letters. There are also a few small differences in words and notes. This calls for extra care in rehearsing a chorus using both versions, but it can be done.
Rutter's Requiem
I first heard Rutter's Requiem Aeternam on Classic FM and immediately thought "What's that ? It's sensational"
The music is written for able singers , but parts can be managed by amateur choirs / singers.
The music is immensely beautiful and calming and tugs at the emotions. Very moving indeed. Apart from the main Requiem Aeternam , I recommend the Lord's my Shepherd and the Lux Aeterna. Altogether a stunning work.
