An excellent book for those who want to make further headway
First impressions are important. For those already familiar with the Headway series they will know what to expect but for those who are using Headway for the first time, in particular the Advanced Headway, they are in for a refreshing surprise.
Today, there is a limited supply of material of a social level in advanced English that incorporates all the teaching skills. Headway Advanced has filled this void with a teaching book that has the added bonus of interesting, informative and amusing material plus sketches that are topical for the task in question.

This teaching manual is of a high standard that meets the requirements of students who already have a wide command of the English language as it challenges him to not only think for himself but to explore other avenues of thought in the various tasks each chapter provides. It is also an excellent preparation for University examinations or for those needing to enhance their present English achievements.
The way Headway Advanced is set-out allows the teacher free range of teaching styles, whether to use the more standard forms of teaching or to use the more modern forms. It allows the student to take a more active part in the lessons. The teacher will find that he will never find the subject matters tedious to teach no matter how many times having to teach it.
The general layout is somewhat different from the usual style of teaching book and, the student should not feel daunted on first perusal of the many reading activities. These he will find both rewarding and fun to work with allowing ample opportunity to increase vocabulary knowledge, perfect pronounciation and/or self access as a homework task.
The Grammar Section and Tapescript follow the general pattern of being placed conveniently at the back of the book. The grammar supplement being precise, practical and even with a sense of humour at times, for example in the case of compound words..."even dictionaries disagree"! Humour in grammar is rare and the inclusion of these humouristic comments alleviates the stress from those annoying queries that occur from time to time with grammar.
To sum up, Headway Advance is a must. Content, presentation, layout, etc. all come together to meet the needs of students who want to continue to "make further headway" in the English language.
