In depth!
After reading the Bible to learn about the Christian stories, I really wanted to find a 'Greek bible', as it were, to give me the full lowdown on Classical Mythology.
This book seemed to fit the bill nicely. Indeed, it was a bit too in depth for my purposes, giving a solid background on *everything*. The only downside to this kind of academic strength is that, for me, it seemed to gloss over the stories that are the most popular. Medusa, the Minatour etc. But there are such a wealth of myths that I hadn't heard of before that this book was nevertheless the learning experience I was after.
A brilliant part of this book is right at the end, where they list mythological sayings etc. that have slipped into common language, very interesting.
