This fifth edition of Shepherd's well-respected text is still worth having on the bookshelf . . . the regions covered are dealt with systematically and clearly. Each chapter has a similar structure, with sections on the neuronal elements present, their synaptic connections and basic circuits, their intrinsic membrane properties, synaptic actions and dendritic properties, and the functional properties of the circuits. This is all done clearly and thoroughly, packing a great deal of information into a small space . . . The synaptic organisation of the brain is a classic text, and still very much worth having and reading for anyone interested in the details of neuroscience. (Physiology News, Number 56 )

Great, but expensive
Studying Neurobiology this year at Cambridge, If I wish there was one book I could buy it would be this one, chock full of great case studies in the human brain and yet so open to new discoveries. This surely will be a classic tetbook when it is a bit bigger and better value for money. All in a all a neuroscience classic. Buy it NOW!
