Product Description

An up to date and comprehensive overview of the developing nervous system, with particular emphasis on the vertebrate brain. The past two decades have witnessed dramatic advances in our understanding of neural development in both invertebrates and vertebrates. Recent advances in the molecular genetic basis of developmental mechanisms are integrated with a synthesis of the classical literature to provide coverage of the key events, from the first appearance of the nervous system in the early embryo through postnatal and later stages. The book is intended for final year undergraduates, graduate students and postdocs doing courses in developmental neurobiology. The extensive reference list will also make it a useful source book for teachers and researchers in the field.

The developing brain4
This book has proved absolutely invaluable for learning details of basic brain and nervous system development. The writing is clear and at a level of detail suitable for final year undergraduates as a supporting text or as a useful reference for postgraduate study and work. The diagrams in particular helpful, largely in the form of outline drawings. This seems to have been thought up with learning and revision in mind, as most of the diagrams are easily reproducible.

A very wide range of subjects is covered; perhaps my only gripe is that this book could have been fattened up with some more detail of the molecular side of neural development and perhaps some sidebars with incidental but interesting information.
