Review
Trainees will find this handbook useful for dipping into during their clinical practice, when faced with a procedure or problem they have not come across before. It represents good value for money. British Journal of Anaesthesia, 89 (2) This handbook is exceptional value... it is going to be much sought after in many different parts of the world... It should be in every theatre and of course every library and I am sure it will become the personal property of many busy anaesthetists in many parts of the English speaking world. Update in Anaesthesia, Number 13 Being an expert in anaesthesia and having a unique knack of placing people in a deep sleep that they barely can remember, I initially thought there was not much this book could really teach me. Well I was sorely mistaken. Barts and the London Chronicle, Vol 5, Issue 1 This book is a must for the novice anaesthetist. It lays out everything, and I mean everything, in a structured format. When you're on call and not sure how to approach a case, this book will tell you how... If you [are] thinking should I buy this book? Then don't think just buy it, you won't be disappointed. Doctor from Surrey, on amazon.co.uk Whatever the reason, we all have qualms about our anaesthetic abilities being challenged and found wanting. Our first impulse is to seek advice from the local expert. With the Oxford Handbook of Anaesthesia in the change-room locker (it's half-life on a bookshelf would be a matter of hours!) there is expert advice available at any hour. Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Vol 30, No 5 This is the most comprehensive handbook I have encountered... This is a book with strong applicability for trainees and experienced clinicians. I expect to continue to use it frequently. Canadian Journal of Anaesthesia This is an exceptional book, which I believe will become the anaesthetists 'Bible'. Anaesthesia As the name suggests, the book is relatively compact, but still packs a punch. GKT Surgical Society website
Review
This is a book for the trainee to know cover to cover, dipping into relevant sections to reinforce their experience before, during and after an anaesthetic. Consultants will also benefit as it provides a highly practical approach to keeping up to date with developments in anaesthesia outside one's area of day-to-day practice. not just for anaesthetists
as a student ODP we all search for the holy grail of books that are compact and easy to carry but full of everything we need to know - this book is it!!
a must for every ODP DipHE student.
A must for all anaesthetists
This latest addition to the Oxford Handbook range is a truly magic little book. It is clinically orientated (divided into preoperative and
perioperative sections), contains a comprehensive drug formulary, plus detailed and useful chapters on Paediatric and Obstetric anaesthesia. The
scope is broadly aimed at senior trainees, but I have found the book to be extremely useful myself for 'checking' block techniques, rare syndromes and before teaching sessions. Overall it is a must for all anaesthetists and great value for money.
A pocket size mental aid for all grades of anaesthetists
Anaesthetists have been crying out for a book of this type and size. With the now familiar approach of the Oxford handbooks, this pocket size but weighty tome will be welcome to young and old gasboys and girls. Its approach is systematic on pre-op assessment, anaesthesia for all manner of surgical specialties, emergencies and practical information. The section on regional anaesthesia is particularly useful as are the emergency protocols in the inside covers. I found this to be just the sort of book to keep in my bag in theatre when an mental nudge is required. I have told all of my trainees about it...
