Oxford - with Muir Gray as its guiding light, is once again a metaphorical meeting place for ideas, inspiration and great teaching. Just as Laurent Blanc kissed the bald pate of Fabien Barthez before each game in France's glorious World Cup winning run, kiss the cover of the Oxford Handbook of Public Health Practice before you open it. You will have found a true soul mate. From the foreword by Liam Donaldson, Chief Medical Officer The editors of the Oxford Handbook of Public Health Practice have achieved their aim. It is excellent value for money and is essential reading for new trainees and experienced practitioners of Public Health Medicine alike. Public Health This pocket-sized book is packed full of practical information about how to make things happen in public health. In 66 admirably concise chapters it covers a vast amount of territory from appraising research evidence to improving personal effectiveness. Laurence Gruer, Director for Postgraduate and Continuing Education in Public Health Medicine, Public Health Institute of Scotland The 'must have' public health book of the year, if not the decade... a superb book. Public Health The book is so well compiled and edited, it is of immense value and help to anyone involved in public health... training schemes should provide a personal copy to all trainees all over the country... certainly a worthwhile investment. Any specialist in training is faced witht he ominous question-how do I do this? For the fully fledged practitioners it is often some time since they had to exercise certain skills, and faced with a new challenge need a reminder of how to approach it. To have an answer to this delivered by an eminent cast of experienced public health luminaries would be ideal, and it is this that this book delivers. (John Lucy, Public Health )

Excellent chapters, clearly explained...informative, useful and practical...An essential book for anyone in public health or with a public health interest...continues to succinctly give the tools to be an effective public health practitioner to survive and succeed in these times...this book is the equivalent of the 'Public Health' Bible. A brilliant study aid !5
I purchased this book during the last few months of studying towards my degree in public health. It was one of the most helpful books I have found within this field.

It covers all essential up-to-date topics including - community development, needs assessment, leadership and management issues. The section on developing public health strategies is particularly worth mentioning and includes a step-by-step approach on how to achieve effective public health measures.

It also provides a good source of further references to other related articles and books which was also very worthwhile. The layout is simple yet effective, easy to understand which made it a fantastic study aid for exams.

It is small and compact which means you can take it with you at all times, as I have and it has proved invaluable during the first months of my employment in the field of public health. This book would appeal to all persons involved in public health at present as it provides information that can be used on many levels, from student to practitioner.

This a really great book for anyone studying or working in Public Health5
I purchased this book as I am currently a student in Public Health and it has been invaluable & completely up to date with current events in Public Health.
