Average customer review:Product Description
The second edition of this well establised textbook provides a readable, comprehensive and accessible account of the law governing health care in England and Wales. In contrast to other texts, it examines the full range of health care but not merely its medical context. The narrative is clear and succinct with full references to legal sources to meet the needs of law students and practitioners. However, excessive use of legal jargon is avoided ensuring that the law is also accessible to health care professionals. The text sets out the law on public health, the NHS, the health professions, clinical negligence litigation, patients' rights, and research and health care ethics. Major developments since 1997 have led to substantial revisions throughout the book, which now takes account of such organisations as the National Institute for Clinical Excellence and the Commission for Health Improvement. Professor Montgomery addresses the legal and regulatory responses to a series of 'scandals' (Bristol babies, Alder Hey etc); the development of medical techniques and regulatory bodies; the impact of the Human Rights Act and the Data Protection Act; the Blair administration and NHS reforms.

Customer Reviews
Good book now dated
This book looks at not only the standard subjects of medical law (consent, negligence etc) but examines health care law with the perspective of health care organization and regulation. As such it is a very good and thoughtful volume though may not be the best book to write and essay from. The one problem is that though the subject matter does go to areas that other books do not consider there have been considerable changes in the NHS and it requires a new edition.
good for holding the door open
I am a first year nursing student and i was told to buy this book by my law lecturer. i found it to be a waste of money. not much of what we cover in class is even in it and if it is it is quite heavy reading and difficult to find the stuff you need without wading through a lot of useless stuff as well. if you are recommended to buy this book check it out in the library first could save yourself a lot of money.
