Product Description

This title is being produced in collaboration with the exam board and they will be marketing it to centres who follow AQA Physics B A level. It consists of concise content, exactly tailored to and following the sequence of the specification. This AS book covers the first half of the course. Next year the A2 book, covering the second half of the course, will be published. The book provides the student with: * information about the examination papers * advice on how to tackle exam questions effectively * definitions and facts which need to be learnt * essential concepts and principles explained carefully and concisely * real-life applications of content, particularly in the context of Information and Communication which is the underlying theme of the specification * lots of practice exam questions. It's the essential guide to this exam.

Disorganised and error strewn2
If you are sitting the AQA B AS level then your choices of course-specific textbook are, alas, limited to this somewhat feeble effort. The topic order (particularly for the mechanics, in which Newton's Laws are dealt with only near the end) is often bizarre and frustrating, the information sometimes incomplete (and at odds with past-paper mark schemes and examiners' comments), and the use of symbols periodically inconsistent. Worst of all, some of the information and answers are actually incorrect (and have remained so since first publication), leading to immense frustration on the part of students and staff. As a self-study book, it would be near the bottom of my list. Under the supervision of a (motivated and thorough) teacher, it offers considerably more value, as the inaccuracies and inconsistencies can be highlighted, allowing its strengths to become more evident (specifically its reasonable coverage of key ideas in the AQA B syllabus). To its credit, the book is also sufficiently robust for use in schools (unlike far superior efforts such as OUPS's Advanced Phyiscs or (if treated roughly) the latest Dobson, Grace, and Lovett).

In conclusion, no student should attempt AS level physics (even the AQA B syllabus) using this textbook as their only source. If studying other syllabuses there are far better texts (Collins for AQA A, Nelson Thornes for Edexcel and OCR), and if studying the AQA B it should be used only in conjunction with other 'general' guides (such as those mentioned above or other good, general books, such as Arnold's AS/A2 Physics or, for more advanced (if monochrome) studies, the physics 'bible' by Muncaster).

Although producing and proofing textbooks is a fraught process, the authors and publishers of this study should be ashamed of themselves for promoting a text riddled with so many errors. Their shame is magnified by their ongoing failure to correct said errors. I suggest you do not reward them for their unprofessionalism and lethargy by purchasing this book.

It make look good, but...1
...as a physics student you should know that what you see isn't always any good. Or something.

This book is 100% wasted paper. It provides little real insight into the specification, is desperate to make notes from, had multiple incorrect answers (which leads to loss of confidence and emotional distress), and the explanations are terrible and incomplete.

For revision and learning, would suggest just downloading the actual specification, reading your notes, using Google and interrogating your teacher. "Calculations for A-Level Physics" by Lowe and Rounce is a FAR better way to revise.

Simple Successful Revision Book!5
The many problems people have when studding, is using lots of different textbooks. Some cover the topic to simply; others go in to too much detail. This book tells you exactly what you need to know for the AQA exam and no more! Not only is the book set out in the same order as the syllabus, but also it includes tips on how to tackle exam questions, and help on revision skills.

When you're in exams do you sometimes wonder what the actual question is asking for? Well fear no longer! This book shows in detail what the key words in questions mean, and how to go about tackling them.

With clear diagrams and illustrations, revising for AS Physics couldn't be easier. Also unlike other textbooks, this book includes AQA past papers, so you know what you are up against when you sit your exam. With clear and structured answers, you can easily practice for the real thing!

Even if you're the sort of person who leaves revision till the last minute, you can still gain a lot of valuable knowledge by using this book. Whether it's for solid revision, or for a quick read the night before the exam, this book is definitely tops!

All in all, this is a must book for anyone doing AQA physics, or any other board for that matter!

Good luck to you all!
