About the Author
Hugh Brayne, solicitor, is Professor of Law at Sunderland University. He was previously Head of Law at Kingston University and Professor of Law at Northumbria University. He is the author of a number of leading works in this area, and his latest new title, Legal Materials for Social Workers, is also published by OUP.

This is a "must"book for anyone undertaking Dipsw study
The book was easy to read. The information was to the point and relevant, it showed how you could make of use of the Law in Practice. It gave a good understanding of how the Children Act 1989 is working and includes most up to date info to supplement it e.g. Working Together Guidance. It included the topic of Human Rights Act relevant to each are.

I am a third year social work student. I found Law for social work a invaluable resource to my learning.

This book is writen and presented at an understanderble level, rather than overloading you with the dynamics of legislation. although this text will give you a comprehensive knowledge base on which to practice from. it covers all recent legislative changes including the effects of the green paper on social work delivery, as well as changes around anti soical behavouir and social exclusion.

at the beging of each section it clearly lays out the overview of the chapter and objectives, further giving you an actual case study then walking you throgh this case study, demonstrating the ethical and value dilemas of the case.

This book is good value for money and has all you need to know about social work law. It is set out in sections which makes it easy to understand, read and refer to. Recomended to anyone studying social work.
