Editorial Reviews
Review
This is familiar work to any trained Tier Two/Three advanced interviewers for Suspect or Vulnerable adult and child witnesses. Eric Shepherd has taught Police and Legal advisers/ Solicitors the content of his book for level 1 and 2 Degree studies in crime and policing and deals sufficiently in law to appeal to law students. It has a wider application in the private sector, for example for HR directorates and staff. I am familiar with the author and his teaching and previous publications and thoug I have from time to time challenged its application in the work plcae (and still do) I do not challenge its academic worth. (Roy Murphy, Former Police investigative Adviser )
An invaluable guide to both the learner and the teacher in understanding the complexities of investigative interviewing. With much police training moving away from traditional delivery and towards an academic style, university staffm particularly those involved in inputs regarding the psychology of interviewing, will need to have a thorough theoretical knowledge of the PEACE interviewing model in order to contextualise the potential behaviours displayed. Eric Shepherd has created a very redable book which allows the reader to dip in and out as needed. The practical nature of the style of writing and the focus on application does not detract from the opportunity it affords both a teacher and a learner to draw deep learning around this key policing skill. (Ashley Tiffen, Senior Lecturer in Policing at St Martins College, Carlisle )

This book should be required reading for all police officers and investigators in the UK and in particular those following the I.C.I.D.P. programme.
BUY THIS BOOK!
Having read a few books on this subject I can definatly say that this is the most comprehensive and unbelievably thorough book on this subject.
Every eventuality is catered for and analysed in depth with very helpful mnemonics, hints and tips.
Eric Shepard has wrote an amazing book that I wished I had going through Police training. However, no matter what training you have had, be it tier one or tier five you will benefit from this book.
It is well written in an accessible format that allows the reader to dip in and out as necessary.
Too often Officers go in to interviews poorly prepared and lose the most vital opportunity in the investigation.
This book however is not just about suspect interviews, it covers statement taking and ways to improve on this including the memory and it's part in the process as well as ensuring you maximize the full potential of witnesses.
I can't stress enough how much you WILL benefit from this book, you will not be disappointed.
A Fantastic Book - Buy it.
My wife complains about me being a perfectionist and my commitment to my job and role as a law enforcement officer. I take the view that when dealing with an individuals liberty, I cannot afford or be reckless or to be an amateur. Having read the two previous reviews, I can only mirror their comments.
This book is extremely well written and caters for the wider audience of those who are new to the Investigation arena, or those who believe they are well versed in Investigative interviewing. It cuts to the point and does away with the waffle. It is an easy read and is easily understood and provides excellent examples.
If you are involved with Investigative interviewing, this book is a MUST! as are the methodologies it provides you with. The methods described would clearly enhance any investigators skill set and underlines the most important part of the investigation process...dealing with the suspect.
The practical guidance Eric Shepherd writes about clearly puts the Investigator at the advantage and would easily assist any prosecuting authority with even the most complex of cases. THIS BOOK IS A MUST.
