Containing over 6,400 entries on all aspects of both human and physical geography, this best-selling dictionary is the most comprehensive single-volume reference work of its kind. It includes coverage of cartography, surveying, meteorology, climatology, ecology, population, industry, and development, as well as up-to-date treatment of fast-changing topics such as plate tectonics, remote sensing, geographic information systems, and aerial differentiation. For this new edition, all existing entries have been fully revised and updated, and there is now expanded coverage of economic geography (e.g. neo-liberalism), recent developments in geopolitics (e.g. 9/11 responses and the geographical implications of war on terror), and geography of finance (e.g. global production). It also focuses on the increasingly prominent areas of globalization and the anti-globalization movement, landscape restoration, the digital divide, and issues of governance. Feature panels provide in-depth information on key areas such as the history of geography, demographic transition, and central place theory. Further reading has been added to many entries. This edition also contains recommended web links for many entries, accessed and kept up to date via the Dictionary of Geography companion website. Loaded with clear, concise, and authoritative information, this A-Z reference work is essential for all students and teachers of geography.

Oxford Dictionary of Geography, By Susan Mayhew
Just recently purchased this book from amazon to have to refer to while on my Geography degree level course. Was not sure if it would be too basic for the level I am studying, but it is very comprehensive and well worth having at home if you are studying geography at A-level and above I would suggest. Its about the size of a 'novel' so quite a handy size, not going to clutter up to much space either! This particular range from oxford also has many other titles/subjects areas, economics, ecology, to many others, so if its not geography for you I imagine the others in the range will be just as good!
Just What I wanted
A useful reference book from an Amazon supplier who, as usual, provided accurate and useful info, kept their word and delivered on time. With over 6000 definitions this fourth edition contains most aspects of physical geography and also references aspects of human geography which are both interesting and informative. Entries are well headlined. The 2009 edition is bang up to date in terms of current issues. Geography students alongside those who still ponder on the changing nature of the world in which we live should enjoy this book and find the subject matter thought provoking.
