Blackstone's Police Manual on Road Traffic is the leading text on police law, and the only official reference work for police officers preparing for promotion examinations and for probationary officers. It covers all aspects of road traffic law and procedure from a police officer's perspective. This new edition has been extensively revised to incorporate all legislative developments such as the Police Reform Act 2002, as well as a number of case decisions and changes in policy. It also includes a new clear pages design to aid independent study. Blackstone's Police Manuals have become the best-selling police reference text in the UK. In addition to being the only official study guide for the police promotion examination in England and Wales, and the recognized text for police probationers, the Manuals have quickly established themselves as the definitive source for all who are involved in police law and procedure. Endorsed by Central Police Training and Development Authority, the Manuals have been written in consultation with polices force in England and Wales, incorporating views from Detective schools, Driver Training Centres, and operational officer and police managers countrywide. The Police Reform Act 2002 marks the latest and most wide-ranging of the government's effort to redesign and reinforce policing policy across England and Wales. Touching upon many fundamental aspects of policing, form arrestable offences to the introduction of a national policing plan, the Police Reform Act 2002 will change the face, focus and future of policing. As such, its provisions and their implications are addressed in detail throughout the manuals. Further topical areas covered include terrorism, immigration, firearms and sex offenders.

Customer Reviews
Tells you What you need to know...
This book isn't reader friendly, but what law book is?
It is on the other hand,up-to-date, and contains all relevant info for the OSPRE exams, i'd recommend it to anyone taking the exam (But isn't it required reading anyway!?!?)
Also useful for those on the receiving end!
Quite simply, forewarned is forearmed. If you know what the police know then you'll be in a better position should you get stopped for an alleged driving offence. The book also details the procedure and strict time limits that the police and CPS have to adhere to if you are going to be prosecuted - failure to observe these limits can mean that you will escape the charge. How else would you know your rights without pouring through the statute books or instructing a costly solicitor?
Note: this book is best bought with the other three books in the serious as there are many cross references.
An Officers Best Friend
Combined with the other 3 in the series these books allow an officer to obtain a full understanding of the law they use in every day work. Being fairly new to the force i have found them a god send in helping me develop a good understanding. I can know be sure that all points to prove are incorporated in statements and that i have covered the most important thing!!! What the defendants use to get off!!! Any questions that puzzle me i can now find the answer to, no longer do i have to wait until it gets explained to me. I can now be one step ahead of the rest. Having the knowledge has increased my confidence. WHY? Because i now know what i'm saying is right.
