Product Description

This is a comprehensive handbook that covers all aspects of the assessment and management of patients in the resuscitation room of an Emergency Department. It is aimed at an array of different specialists, covering a range of experiences, and is presented in a logical and easily referenced format. A Resuscitation Room Guide provides practical guidance and background information on the initial care of the acutely ill patient when they first arrive at hospital. Basic principles of safe practice are emphasised, and relevant details for a wide range of emergency conditions are easily accessed. Descriptions of equipment and practical procedures are given along with the purpose and interpretation of tests and investigations. This book will undoubtedly act as a valuable reference tool for staff who are routinely involved with the care of patients in a resuscitation situation, and will be an essential guide for newly qualified doctors working in the Accident and Emergency department.

Editorial Reviews

Review
...a valuable asset for physicians involved in the care of patients in the resuscitation room, particulary junior Emergency Medicine and Anaesthetic staff. It provides useful information on a wide range of clinical scenarios... The internet is changing the way clinicians search for information; Google has become a common alternative to books and provides the potential for a wealth of information. The web does, however, have the potential to provide unsolicited and unreliable details, where the Oxford Handbook series has a strong reputation to offer reliable and safe advice that is trusted throughout the world. a refreshing approach to the heat of the resus room4
This book deals equably with the scope of problems encountered by SHOs in the resus room - from trauma surveys to mechanical ventilation. The chapters are presented in an ABC approach and presentations rather than specific diseases. This is a useful way of learning about emergencies in a practical way. As a medical SHO there are times when ITU aren't available and this book gives useful information on ventilation which at the very least helps you understand when to call ITU.

However, the books greatest strenght is alsi its greatest weakness - the book is a bit of everything and contains nowhere near enough in depth information on common and less common medical problems. In reality the oxford handbook of acute medicine remains the only book I carry with me. It remains unsurpassed and to some extent this book is obselete. Still if you have the money it makes an interesting read.
