Customer Reviews
A very good guide
I bought this book when I started teaching Spanish to some colleagues. Because I am Mexican I wanted to teach them Latin Spanish. This book is a very good guide for those teaching or those who learn on their own. It is fun, well structured and easy to follow. My students were very enthusiastic following a special story at the end of each chapter and look forward for the next session to discover a bit more about "Maria and the stranger". This book is a good investment if you are thinking on teaching or learning Spanish.
Nat bad at all
Just started this course, and find it very good. You hardly need the book at all, the four CDs or cassettes, depending on particular pack you buy, have everything. Oxford University Press do a very good line in language courses and reference material. Check it out.
Quieres hablar mexicano?
The title of this book+CD is misleading almost to the point of being fraudulent. It's a perfectly serviceable(if pricey) guide, but only if you're planning a trip to Mexico. If you need Latin American Spanish for any other destination, get a country-specific course - as indeed this is, despite its title. I was hoping for a course with chapters set in various L.A. countries, with a variety of accents on the CD, a vocab that indicated variations in usage between countries... Nada! But I do now know the names of the four different kinds of bus in use in Mexico City. Maybe that'll come in useful some day...
