Microsoft FrontPage 2000 insulates its users from needing to know many details of Web page mark-up and technologies but that hardly means it's totally intuitive. In FrontPage 2000 for Windows: Visual QuickStart Guide, Nolan Hester tells you what you need to know about using FrontPage to construct Web sites. He goes beyond the basics of page layout to cover form interfaces, database connectivity and development of large sites by a networked team. Further, he extends his coverage beyond the merely technical, offering some design advice that should help the novice developer build Web sites that are attractive and stylish while at the same time easy to use.

The Visual QuickStart Guide format gained fame with Elizabeth Castro's HTML books. The format uses illustrations to great effect, placing lots of them adjacent to sequential instructions that explain how to accomplish specific goals (such as changing image contrast and creating a page from a template). Though the format doesn't leave as much room as other books allow for commentary and background information (and it's not as adept at explaining unexpected events), it leaves little doubt about what you need to do to get the effects you want. About the Author

A longtime reporter and editor, Nolan Hester has worked on everything from mainframe newspaper systems to that first breakthrough laptop for reporters in the field: Tandy's "Trash-80." For a while, he had a KayPro but it was stolen, perhaps by someone who mistook its blue metal case for a Ward's sewing machine. Its replacement: a Fat Mac with a massive 512K of RAM and a copy of Word 1.05. There's been no looking back since--for any of us.

Outstanding content and value.
This is an excellent, no-nonsense guide jammed with easy-to-read text. The supporting screenshots are first-class (and don't take up half a page either).

This book does not skip on content - covering topics such as Cascading Style Sheets in sufficient depth to enable even the newcomer to implement this less-than-easy subject.

I bought this book to switch from HoTMetal Pro to Frontpage, but even those with little knowledge of Web design will find it easily digestible ... it's a steal - and highly recommended.
