Customer Reviews
Excellent content failing structure
Goleman divides this book up into 5 main sections:
"On Face Work"
Deference and Demeanor
Embarrassment and Social Organization
Alienation from Interaction
Where the Action is
The first 4 sections are a real eye opener for first time meetings or long term relationships in any social situation. They provide a basic framework for social organization that is one of the subjects of many modern pop psychology books which do not deal with the reality of real social interactions like this book does - its definitely worth adding to your collection if you want to be a better communincator.
The only con for me was the last section of the book which switches to Goffman's research into Nevada Casino's and discussions on chance and probabililty in society - I didn't feel that part was an easy read and made me put the book down for a while which I hate doing. The rest of the book is completely contrary to that however and worth every penny.
