Product Description
This revised edition of the text provides coverage of the entire field of geochemistry, including a basic review of the fundamental physico-chemical principles of solid, liquid, and gaseous states of matter. It includes an in-depth discussion of the geochemistry of the solid state and trace element geochemistry. It also discusses interionic static potentials in crystals, thermodynamic properties based on lattice vibrations, and crystalline defects and their effect on stability relations of minerals. Other chapters cover elemental properties and crystal chemistry; the thermochemistry of silicate melts; an introduction to petrogenetic systems; and the geochemistry of aqueous and gaseous phases. A new chapter provides an introduction to the principles of isotope geochemistry.

Editorial Reviews
Review
Geochemistry is a vast subject, and Giulio Ottonellos book covers a very large spectrum of the subject in an authoritative way. This is perhaps because of his research involvements in a variety of problems in geochemistry that include solid state geochemistry, trace element geochemistry, development of electrolyte sensors, fluid-rock interaction, and topics at the interface between thermodynamics and crystal chemistry. . . . The book should appeal to both students and active researchers, especially when they need a good exposure to fields outside of their own specialty.
About the Author
Giulio Ottenello is professor of earth science at the Universita degli Studi di Genova, Italy.
