'.....[Animating with Flash MX] sets itself apart by drawing on other apps - such as Poser and Swift - in the creation of Flash movies, and also by demonstrating how to tailor delivery to both Web and non-Web platforms.'

Classic5
This book is a classic.

If you have The Animator's Workbook by Tony White, then this is the 21st century version. The scope of this book is really quite staggering. It has more games than your average Flash games book, it has more on video and DVD information than I have ever seen in one place. The detail is almost overwhelming. The tutorials are very clear and easy to follow.

This book covers all aspects of animation within a Flash environment. If you're at all serious about animation in Flash then this is the book to read first. Alex seems to cover every form of play back from iTV, PDA's, Computers and Mobile phones. How the same content works across all these platforms is really quite interesting. I am glad I read this book, because its going to stop me from falling into some very costly pitfalls.

My only little gripe is that on a few occasions the book is a little chatty, But otherwise you are going to love this book!

Not the best despite what everyone says....3
This book is great if your wanting to learn how to create a Flash Website, this book lacks knowledge on actually creating a flash animated piece (e.g. short movie) this book is more focused upon the website side of things, which was something I didn't want to do, the tutorials within the book are interesting but they use 2 characters throughout, they are ok in the book but when you actually go to the pratical side of things, the book is very very confusing, it will even be more confusing to beginners, this book tugs into the deep end too early leaving many questions than answers.
This book is great if you've had experience in flash but if your new to it, you might want to try something else :/
This isn't a book that I would recommend to flash beginners because the text is over done, its too complicated to follow along, its doesn't give solutions to why this is needed in the tutorials but just tells you to do it.. I wanted to learn from the book but after working 1/4 of the way through it, I had many questions, questions that the book could not answer.
The DVD isn't that impressive either as it just gives you the Completed version of what you have to do in the tutorials, at the end of the day, you aren't really picking up anything from the book... I didn't and I'm a beginner, prehaps things will be difference for experts or veterans of the software.

Great, in-depth book
This book is a great book to have. It's wonderfully illustrated with glossy pages and color pictures and has tons of information for anyone wanting master the art of animation. The amount of detail in this book is daunting and it covers everything from different animation techniques to character binding to video and rendering. This is a definite must for anyone wanting to get into character animation. This is a must have.
