The new edition of the Small Business Handbook charts the entire lifespan of a small business from initially assessing the idea, market evaluation, product/service, raising finance, marketing, technology right through to the tax and legal obligations facing your business. Having successfully guided the reader through the process of starting a business, the book moves on a step to show how to create and manage growth successfully.

This fully updated edition looks at the growing pains of setting up a business, solutions to everyday business issues, time and stress management, and the balance between work and home life. 'The number of mainstream business starts in Q1 2000 totalled 111,200, over 10,000 lower than in the same period of 1999. The number of closures in Q1 2000 totalled 108,000, a rise of 9% on a year earlier.'

Customer Reviews

Good, common sense approach to all aspects of small business4
An excellent starting point for those new to setting up a business and good advice for those who think they know what they are doing.

Step by step approach works well and is supported by documents on floppy disk.

Found some of the documents very far from the plain english approach, but they are presented as legal rather than lay persons documents, so perhaps understandable. However, would still have to pay a solicitor to explain some of it to me.

Can 'dip in' to sections without having to start from scratch, so can be used as a reference as well as workbook. Particularly liked the end of chapter summaries, tips and actions plans.

An excellent guide to springboard a new venture5
The small business handbook has a very usefull floppy disk which comes loaded with forms, templates, spreadsheets and other excellent information. I still refer to the book and the disk 2 years after buying. A "must read" for any new venture or newly formed business who want to start running quickly and effiicently.

This book has been and is a very useful reference4
I am starting my own business and do not have much time to research business concepts. This book provides a very accessible reference without jargon. It has given me some great pointers. In my position you would do well to have a copy. All the best in your new venture.
