From the Back Cover

In order to run a successful business, today’s manager needs to combine business skills with an understanding of information systems and the opportunities and benefits that they bring to an organisation. Starting from basic concepts, this book provides a comprehensive and accessible guide to:

  • understanding the technology of business information systems;
  • choosing the right information system for an organisation;
  • developing and managing an efficient business information system;
  • using information systems strategically to achieve organisational goals.

Taking a problem-solving approach, Business Information Systems looks at information systems theory within the context of the most recent business and technological advances. This thoroughly revised new edition has updated and expanded coverage of contemporary key topics such as:

  • Web 2.0
  • enterprise systems
  • implementation and design of IS strategy
  • outsourcing

Business Information Systems does not assume any previous knowledge of IS or ICT, and new concepts are simply defined. New business examples, case studies and web links are fully integrated throughout illustrating the relevance and impact of information systems in today’s business environment. In addition there are a wealth of questions and exercises both in the book and online at www.pearsoned.co.uk/bis enabling students to test their understanding of key topics and issues.

Very helpful book....4
This book practically got me through the last year of my degree in Business Information Systems! The majority of topics to do with IT/IS are dealt with this book in good detail. Each chapter contains definitions of the key terms, case studies and activities and concludes with a list of further reading and relevant web links. The book is well written, nicely laid out and contains up-to-date information.

A must for any IT/IS student!

A very good Jack of all!5
I'm about to finish an IT and Management BSc course. We (everyone on the course!) bought this book in 2002 - and yes, I know it says published in 2003! ;) - This has been the best book on our entire course:
a) I've read the entire book (unusual for this kind of text),
b) I've referenced this book the most,
c) there's pretty much a bit of everything in it.
It covers most IT management topics (strategy etc.) - and is very good if you need to waffle about something you have not got a specialist book on (that is, minor points such as 'Resistance to Change').

Book arrived in a couple of days and, although not new, was in perfect condition.
