Customer Reviews

Not for beginners, but an excellent work5
This book is not for those who are new to the concepts behind postmodernism: neither would I suggest it for people who are starting on biblical criticism, as it assumes at least some knowledge of current (or recent) trends in the field. Having said that, this is an excellent introduction for those wishing either to see how one or more of the postmodern critical methodologies with which they are familiar can be applied to biblical criticism, or for someone looking to expand their understanding of the latest critical developments in biblical studies.
A variety of approaches are covered, including structuralist, post-structuralist, reader-response, psychoanalytic, feminist, womanist, deconstructionist and ideological. Although a grounding in the principles of at least one of these is probably a good idea before tackling this book, the differences (and links) between them are well-explained, and most readers are likely to find something that is new to them.
