Heidegger's "Introduction to Metaphysics" is one of the most important works written by this figure of 20th-century philosophy. The new translation aims to make this work more accessible including provision of conventional translations of Greek passages that Heidegger translated unconventionally.

Not an introduction to traditional metaphysics...5
In response to one of the other reviews - this book is not intended as an introduction to metaphysics, though it is understandable how this may be thought. It is instead an induction into metaphysics, as Heidegger defines the term and understands it.

Not wishing to forage too deeply into the contents of the book itself, I will but say that it is an immensely fascinating and stimulating read. Heidegger starts off by positing the question 'Why are there beings at all instead of nothing?', and the book (based on a series of lectures) seeks to explore that question (not to answer it).

An ideal read for anyone interested in an alternative view of the pre-Socratics, in deconstructionalism, or Heidegger's concept of language... Well, an ideal read for anyone looking for something different!

An excellent translation of a philosophical classic.5
Why is there anything rather than nothing? This question is central to Heidegger'thought, both early and late. The present translation is a vast improvement on its predecessor and for the reader approaching Heidegger for the first time it will provide a relatively painless initiation into the heartland of Heidegger's seminal thinking.

Introduction to Heidegger5
I sympathise with those who complain that the title (aimed at Heidegger's own students) is misleading for the non-specialist, but I wholeheartedly recommend the book as the best introduction to Heidegger. It is probably the most accessible summary of Heidegger's lifelong mission to reinstate ontology (the study of existence as an entity) at the heart of philosophical study, but don't expect clearly delineated cartesian reasoning, or a Heidegger for Idiots approach -there is always a respect for the ultimate, poetic mystery of life in Heidegger, and his delight in, and reverence for, the fluttering veil that separates us from the naked became more important in his later works.
