Still the best
Although crticised elsewhere for showing its age and slight inaccuracies with regards to certain events , this has to be the most readable book on the Battle of Britain ever written. Crammed with eyewitness reports from both sides of the conflict the book fairly romps along and you feel the tension building as the climax of the battle approaches. Never getting bogged down in detail and statistics, instead, it concentrates on the 'human' experiences of those who were there, from the Messerschmitt 110 rear gunner bursting into tears after being shot down to the 'snotty' reception a crashed Spitfire pilot received after crash landing on a Golf course ! A very difficult book to put down and despite the plethora of books on the subject, this is the one you will regard as the most memorable.
