Editorial Reviews

About the Author
Air Vice-Marshal Johnson was the top scoring fighter pilot of World War Two. He also fought with the United States Air Force in Korea. He played an important part in the events he described, and knew most of the major figures of aerial combat. He is regarded as the greatest fighter pilot of them all.

Customer Reviews

Dated but relevant4
For a pilot of Johnny Johnson's caliber and rank, this book has a few errors, and in some cases does not match with his tales from his other book, Wing Leader. Perhaps the typesetters had their own interpretation, but to have the FW 190 called a Fokker Wolf is a basic error, and I can't believe that Johnny Johnson couldn't identify an aircraft bty it's correct name, especially having spelled it correctly in his earlier book.
The book is interesting nevertheless, as it is one man's view of the evolution of air warfare, and all due respect must be given considering the achievements of the author.
Yes, some of it is blindingly obvious, and perhaps now seen with the benefit of hindsight, but it is a good reference guide to the newcomer to this genre.
