A delightful synopsis of everything Violin.5
As an adult learner and relative beginner to this instrument, I found this Encyclopaedia a delight to read. It contains some very insightful discussions on the History of the Violin, its Construction, and on some of the famous makers and players of the instrument going back to the father of the modern violin technique Archangelo Correlli himself ( mid 17th Century ). For the beginner it is also useful, as it contains discussions on Practice, Tone developement and general Music studies. It is not so much an Encyclopaedia containing just a glossary of terms - which it also contains - but a complete reference works which any player of any level will derive some benefit from reading, even if its just a greater appreciation of the profundity of the instrument. However, it is not very politically correct in parts - it was written in 1925 afterall - and I will leave the reader to discover those things for themselves, but this just makes it all the more interesting to read - or atleast it did for me !. In conclusion, thouroughly enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone - beginner though I am.
