Customer Reviews

Less depth than the back of a cereal box1
Hmm.. where to start... first of all, the length of the book... 220-odd pages.. of double lined text... a blank page before and after the chapter, which means we've probably got about 100 pages of pure text... and what a collection of text it is... The entire book is just quotes from previous interviews with a minimal amount narrative in between this. I can only assume the writer has never met, let alone had any correspondence with Trent Reznor, and basically constructed a book entirely out of hearsay.

To say I feel ripped off with this book is really an understatement, and although these reviews are all subjective, I can't really see how anyone can fail to feel ripped off by it, the book is as deep as a puddle, and has about as much content as a Boots 'Shaper Salad'.

Nine Inch Nails by martin huxley1
Having been a huge fan of NiN for quite awhile, the prospect of actually finding out some more information about them really excited me. The reality however I found quite different, although packed with information about musical inspiration and how he formed the band I found the lack of personnel involvement from Reznor quite dissapointing. All the book consists of is many re-hashed interviews that the author didn't pen from people who didn't really want him to succeed. Great information but not even one quote from the man himself! Worth buying for all those Nine Inch Nails fans out there but dont expect to be wowed or rivited to the spot.

Ok but could do better3
This book is useful for getting to know about Reznor's early years: it only documents his career to The Downward Sprial. The narrative contains plenty of clips from interviews: obviously there was no direct contact with Reznor himself - that just simply would not happen. However what I found strange about the book is it's lack of any serious delving into his private life: after all it's his personal deamons he examines in his songs. Most curious of all was the fact that the author completey ignores his alcohol and drug addictions. A whole chapter, on the other hand, is given over to the Courtney Love feud (oh God who cares) and nothing about any significant others in his life (surely some woman made an impression!) It was a quick read and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get an overview of the early musical career but not if you want to delve deep.
