Very helpful for a child who is about to get glasses.
This book really helped my son, who was about to get glasses, to realize that people would still like him and be his friends even though he would look a little different. My son's kindergarten teacher read the book to his class and a lot of his classmates ended up thinking that getting glasses would be "cool".

Arthur gets his Glasses
I love this book!It's great!Here's the story.Arthur's looking fine in class but he can't see.He even sometimes got headaches.Arthur's book was held so close his nose was in the way. Arthur can't see the board so Francine has to help him read the problems.She got every one right.Arthur didn't.Francine was not happy all the time and was always asking Arthur to see if he's blind.In the gym nobody wants to play with Arthur.He couldn't hit the basket when he was playing basketball.Arthur's mother and father takes him on a trip to the Optometrist.Dr.Iris takes a closer look at Arthur's eyes.She says that he needs glasses.Arthur tries all kinds of frames then he chose the ones he liked best.Arthur's father says that he looked very handsome in his new glasses.Arthur says that everything looks clearer.His mother says that he looked very smart.But the next day at school Arthur's friends were laughing at him.He was called four-eyes by Francine and he was called a sissy by Buster.Arthur's friends never wore glasses.His family never wore glasses,either.He was devastated.He won't care if he can see.He doesn't want to be called four-eyes.Arthur decides to lose his glasses.Arthur takes off his shirt and puts it in the laundry.Inside his front pocket were his glasses. His mother found them the next day and was not very pleased.She says that he has to be more careful.He's lucky they weren't broken.At school,Arthur puts his glasses in his lunchbox and tells his teacher he forgot them.But things are harder to see now.Arthur has to count the doors when he walks down the hall to the boys'bathroom.Arthur opens the door.Francine was in there and she was talking.What was she doing in the boys'bathroom.But Francine told Arthur to get out.It was the girls'bathroom.Arthur's bumping into walls and can't find the door.The girls are now screaming and shoutng.In the hall the doors begin to open.Everyone runs out.The principal arrives.Everyone's staring at Arthur.Arthur begins to turn red.He wants to hide.Arthur's sent to the principals office.In the classroom Arthur's teacher was talking to him.He says to keep his glasses in a case as he does.Arthur asked that his teacher wear glasses.His teacher says that he does for reading.He takes them out.They're like Arthurs.And they're brown.This suddenly makes Arthur feel better.Arthur goes to his lunchbox and puts his glasses on.In the gym,Arthur made the most baskets and they were ten but Francine made the least baskets and they were four.In the afternoon,Arthur doesn't need Francine to read the problems on the board.Arthur got every problem right.Arthur can see Francines paper.She got two wrong.After school,Francine asks Arthur to be on her team.He says that he'll consider it.The next day at school Arthur looks surprised when he met Francine.She says that they're her movie star glasses.Arthur says that there's no glass in them.Francine says that it doesn't matter.It helps her concentrate and make her look beautiful.In the afternoon a photgrapher takes the class picture.Arthur says to just a minute and takes out his glasses and carefully polished them and put them on.The photographer says that everyone is ready.Francine says to wait and ran to get her purse.She took out her movie star glasses and put them on.Francine says that she's ready.The photographer says to the children to smile.There's now a picture of the sencond grade children.

That was a great story.

I thought it was a very good book.
I think it is really a good book beacause it shows the readers that you can be different and still be special in your own way. The glasses helped him to do everything better. I recommend the book. I think it gives the children a sense of self-esteem of you can look and be different but still be unique. Same way with Arthur and his friends. At first it was different for his friends to get used to him with glasses, but later he aced his tests and everyone wanted him to be on their basketball team. This is a wonderfully thoughtful book.
