Editorial Reviews
Lynn Freed, author of House of Women and The Mirror
...makes manifest, in a beautifully written and complex story full of love and hope, the utter banality of evil.
Michael Chabon, author of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Klay
Painfully funny, bracingly tough, terribly sad, it is a feat of imagination and a tribute to the healing power of grief...
Jonathan Frantzen, author of The Corrections
Sebold has given us a fantasy-fable of great authority, charm and daring. She's a one-of-a-kind-writer.

A Guy's point of view
I normally do not read this style of book, I stay with books like The Price of Immortality and WOT series but my wife had bought it and insisted that I read it. This is a story of a murdered teenage girl and her observations of what happens with her family on earth after her murder tell the story. It's incredibly moving, don't tell anyone but I found myself tearing up often throughout the book. This is one of those books that stays with you long after you have finished reading it, but in a good way, not in a sad one. It also made me laugh, strange as that may sound. All the characters are very real, and you begin to love them as Susie does. I'm highly impressed by Alice Sebold's storytelling, and I look forward to reading anything else she may write.
A different kind of story but very very good is The Price of Immortality. I highly recommend it!
The Lovely Bones- Alice Sebold
A truly moving, beautifully written piece of work. This work explores many issues surrounding death, life, relationships, and heaven. The ideas and possibilites that this author presents to the reader is extremely thought-provoking. Well worth a read. Very emotional and intense.
Worth Reading
I have recently read this book. It is not the type of book I would normally read but I admit the picture on the front and the description on the back lured me in and I was not disappointed! The Lovely Bones tells the story of Susie a teenage girl murdered in a field behind her school. The story tells of her family and their subsequent lives without her, whilst still living and her continuance of 'life' in heaven without them. There are absolute gems in this book, for example when the family dog joins her which brought a tear to my eye. At the end of the book I was sad to have finished reading it as I was enjoying it so much. I think if I had had a death in my family I would of felt intense relief reading this book and have recommended it to a friend whose sister tragically died aged 3 (35 yrs ago). I hope she will enjoy the idea that she may be watching from somewhere else.
