There's no better way for you to get your feet wet using Macromedia Flash MX than with a H.O.T. tutorial, Lynda Weinman's well-loved and unique style of instruction. With Macromedia Flash MX Hands-On Training, you'll learn core Macromedia Flash MX principles and techniques in a real-world Web design environment. The step-by-step projects build successively, teaching you not only the various features of Macromedia Flash MX, but also how to actually work with the program to achieve results. Each lesson is chock-full of background information, tips, and insight aimed at helping you understand the process as much as the exercise itself. And the accompanying CD-ROM includes both starter files and finished files for each lesson, as well as QuickTime instructional movies, so that you can learn by watching and doing.
Macromedia Flash MX H.O.T. covers all of the most important new features of Macromedia Flash MX, beginning with projects that focus on the MX interface, drawing and color tools, animation basics, tweening, symbols and instances, bitmaps, and more. As the projects progress, you'll tackle more complex techniques, such as working with movie clips, text, sound, and video. The latter part of the book addresses publishing and managing Macromedia Flash MX content, as well as how to create content by integrating other software into Macromedia Flash MX. If you're looking for an intelligent, approachable guide for learning Macromedia's latest version of Flash, you'll find lynda.com's Hands-On Training your e-ticket to Macromedia Flash MX expertise!

The only book you'll need to start in Flash
All the Authors of there books are teachers(plus point 1). The methodical way in which the lessons and tutorials are laid out is inspiring. You gain confidence as you go your own pace. This is my third book on Flash MX and the only one that will remain by my side. Whether you what to create a simple animation or a complete website this book will not just guide you but teach all you need to know to get up and running quickly.
Complete all the tutorials from start to finish from beginning to end and you will become accomplished in Flash and confident in using this extremily powerful program. The book is accompanied by video tutorials (approx 2hrs) and all the tutorial files which alone are worth the price. Extremily good value can't wait for the actionscript version due out July 2003. The scary part of Flash actionscripting is covered briefly and well now its not so scary. I know I have'nt gone into the nitty gritty of every chapter but I never scratched my head once reading this book or doing the tutorials. Even if you use Flash already or have'nt used it for a while this is also a great refresher. The author got it just right I hope she continues to write more books of this calibre. In case your wandering they are no (minus points). Don't hesitate just buy it.
New to Flash MX? This will do wonders
Ok so you're new to Flash MX? You've done something with it and can see that you would like to take this wonderful program further and see what it, and you, can really do? But you are lost by the rather large selection of tutorial books out there detailing how to learn flash?
Well enlightenment lies within this eye opening book. It IS at the very basic level and that was exactly what i was after. It goes through a large range of situations in flash and does NOT patronise or assume anything from you the person wants to learn.
There are plenty of pictures included which is a good aspect believe me! If you're not entirely sure you can check the screengrab and be 100%. Very useful and necessary for beginners i would say.
It WILL get you up and running on flash mx, of that be sure. Yet to further your skills and carry out some decent projects you will need a more advanced book.
From an actionscript point of view colin moocks latest looks very tempting.
shouldnt you be on the buying page by now? ;)
The best book I have ever read
I did not think that books like this actually existed. By this I mean books that actually teach you something!
Flash is not easy, but after reading this book, you'll wonder why you ever found it so difficult?
So what does it teach you? In a word, the basics, well slightly more than that actually: drawing, animation, buttons, the mysterious ActionScripting, as well as the principles for designing Flash websites, to name but a few.
Having been given some weak (very weak) lessons in Director on my course, I wanted to learn Flash properly and when I started reading this book, I honestly couldn't put it down!
If you have never used Flash before or Director, then this book is what you're looking for!
