Product Description

Human Histology is a well-established textbook, combining a superb layout and illustration program with concise, student friendly text. Clinical scenarios in each chapter link the basic science to clinical practice, making histology stimulating and relevant to current medical students. Other pedagogical features include 'advanced concept' and 'practical histology'sections, making it easy for the reader to dip in to these subjects without being overwhelmed with material. The new edition has been thoroughly updated with the latest information in molecular biology, a new chapter on histological investigations, extra clinical information and even better images. It will also have a related revision site on Flesh and Bones, including exam questions and an image test bank.

Customer Reviews

Very good....with the odd glitch4
I found this book incredibly useful when it came to learning about histology for certain exams. The content is definately easy to get into and it's full of pretty little pictures. The authors appear to have a pesonality which is a rare pleasure these days (having had a lecture by one of them). However, there are a few problems with the book in my opinion. First of all, if you need to be able to ID things under a microscope then the book by Kerr is infinately superior and it has a more concise text so its great for if you're in hurry and don't feel like ploughing through Stevens and Lowe...which brings me to my 2nd point; some bits are confusing because the book is quite simplistic and touches on certain things but doesn't really explain their significance very well or go into any depth - integrins and laminin being a good example. Overall I would recommend it to anyone studing histology as a cosy introduction to histology and as an essential asset for breezing those medschool exams!

An excellent text for the budding histologist5
This text is a clear and concise read. Organs and systems are reviewed alongside good quality photomicrographs for tissue recognition. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in tissue pathology.

Clear and concise - excellent!5
A distinguishing feature of this book is the extensive use of colour micrograph images. Unlike some textbooks in this area, every image uses stained human tissue. The content is divided into the different cell types, followed by the body systems. The design allows each chapter to be both detailed and readable. This is achieved by the use of coloured text boxes dividing the clinical examples and references to practical histology from the main text. The practical references assist the student in identifying the samples when using a microscope themselves. There are highlighted key fact sections for revision and question and answer reviews at the end of each chapter. An excellent clear and concise learning resource for the undergraduate medical student.
