Great story - what a ride!
IMHO this is one of Wilbur Smith's better books. Not only does it have a compelling story, but it has a better ending (still too Mills & Boon) than some. Having spent some time in Zim, I learned that this book is VERY well researched. Not just dull descriptions, but brought very much to life. Going on holiday - buy-it!

superb, definitely one of WS's better novels
Wilbur Smith no doubt performed mountaneous research for this book. This novel is definitely a must for anyone that follows Southern African history. WS is debatably biased in his review of urban tribal battles that nearly saw the little country thrown into a massive war. It however deserves to be unbanned in Zimbabwe.

Very gory
A very gory and violent story of recent tribal politics in Zimbabwe. Interesting, but everything works out too neatly at the end, with a very unbelievable happy ending. One of my problems with it was that the love interest, Sally-Anne was initially described as having 'eyebrows that stretched in an unbroken curve from the outer corner of one eye to the other'. I instantly got a vision of Noel Gallagher in drag and after that, couldn't take any of the love scenes seriously. Trivial I know, but it spoiled the story.
