‘God kissed the face of Audrey Hepburn, and there she was’ Billy Wilder
Audrey Hepburn was loved by millions of movie fans and reflected that love back on her audience. Her warmth and grace, both onscreen and off, endeared her to millions and her humanitarian efforts made her a role model to countless more. When she died from colon cancer in 1993, the loss was felt all over the world.
Audrey Hepburn was more than a movie star, more than a style icon. She considered her most important role to be wife and mother. In this beautiful memoir, her son, Sean Ferrer, remembers their life together. This is the story of her life from her childhood during WWII, to Hollywood, to her work for the United Nations. It is a story about Audrey Hepburn as only her son could tell it, and it is also an incredible account of the steadfast bond between them. Intimate, inspiring and including more than 300 photographs and drawings - many of which have never before published - An Elegant Spirit is an illustrated memoir of the woman the world adored, by the son who adored her and was adored by her.
There have been a number of books about Audrey, but few have truly captured her essence. Sean Hepburn Ferrer's beautiful memoir does just that.

Inspiring and heart warming book
I'm already an Audrey Hepburn fan so I couldn't wait to get this book, and I wasn't disappointed either. Written by her first son, Sean, this book is written straight from the heart and the closeness and love that this son felt for his mother really does come across. This book contains photos from Audrey Hepburn's own personal collection which have not been published before, and which really bring her warm, loving personality to life. There are many anecdotes from her friends and loved ones as well which are quite inspiring and make you want to be a better person. This book is a winner on all levels and funds from the sale of the book go to UNICEF, for whom Audrey worked tirelessly in the last ten years of her life.
Audrey Hepburn, Elegant Spirit
This enchanting, and at times heartrending very personal account of a woman known throughout the world for her beauty, grace and elegance is above all a book written about a mother by her son. The attempt to correct common inaccuracies about his mother's early life, together with an honest admission that the book will contain elements of sadness as well as a theme of children are well executed. The inclusion of many private family photographs, copies of documents and transcripts of speeches make a good attempt at an accurate biography. However, there is no doubt that the overriding essence of the book is Sean's obvious deep love for his mother and their close relationship. As well as an overview of her career, a large part of the book is dedicated to the work Ms Hepburn achieved on behalf of UNICEF, her personal determination to make a difference for suffering children throughout the world, fuelled by her own wartime experiences as a child in Arnhem and the lifelong unresolved abandonment by her father as war broke out. I can thoroughly recommend this very personal account of a woman who is portrayed as one who was challenged by great sadness in her childhood, achieved much in her career, a gardner who loved her home in Switzerland, an animal lover, never without a dog, an ambassador for UNICEF, but above all a mother, who insisted on doing the school run herself, gave up work to be with her boys, who were with her at the end and carried her coffin to the local churchyard in Switzerland. A must for all Audrey Hepburn fans.
Elegant Spirit
Those who admire Audrey Hepburn and her life MUST buy this book, I have several books on Audrey and this one rates the best.
