Customer Reviews

Recommended companion to A level study5
Marsh's clearly structured discussion of Bronte's novel makes it assessible and invaluable to all A level students of the text, simplifying complex ideas whilst ensuring that the conscientious reader is challenged and inspired. Each chapter contains accurate and thought-provoking analyses of central extracts and the novel as a whole, as well as providing straightforward conclusions, a simplified summary of the language features studied, and useful suggestions for further study. Selected critical views and an exploration of the context of the novel make this book relevant for the new AS specifications. In addition, it offers readers a fool-proof formula with which to approach the analysis of other texts, explaining effectively the difference between imagery and symbolism, for example. As a teacher of English, I feel that this is one of the most effective books I have found for study at this level.
