Brilliant study of tactical brilliance and strategic failure
This work is already regarded as a classic of its type and deservedly so. Horne brings his usual eye for the illuminating detail and the dramatic event combined with his superb style. If you haven't read any of Alistair Horne's work before you can start with this one...and then I would recommend reading anything else by him as well. Brilliant.
Blackhawk
This is the classic on the fall of France in 1940. A must read for those interested in the complete unpreparedness of the Allies to deal with the onslought of Hitler as well as the imaginative German campaign planning and execution of the assault on France. Packed with fascinating detail, as is the style of Horne. Highly readible.
