Behaviour management in the classroom and playground is one of the most challenging aspects of teaching. The new edition of Behaviour in Schools offers a comprehensive overview of the major theories of behaviour management in primary and secondary schools, illustrated with detailed case studies.
The theories covered range from teacher-dominated methods to more democratic approaches. They include assertive discipline, applied behaviour analysis, the new cognitive behavioural approaches, neo-Adlerian theory, humanism, Glasser's control theory and systems theory. The emphasis is on proactive approaches to discipline which allow teachers to achieve their educational and social goals for their students and themselves. Porter also shows how to enhance students' motivation and help students become confident and independent learners.
Maintaining the balance of theory and practice, the new edition has been fully updated in light of recent research, including a strengthened discussion of inclusion and anti-bias curricula, and sections on motivation and self-esteem. References have been also been updated, making fuller use of UK research.
Behaviour in Schools is a textbook for education students and a reference for experienced teachers who want to improve their ability to cope with disruptive behaviour.

Customer Reviews
A must-have for any school aiming to improve discipline
This book outlines the many different approaches that school staff can develop to cope with childrens difficult behaviour. It is very easy to read, without too much jargon and will suit all members of school staff and possibly parents.
Helen Porter shows a great understanding of the needs of schools in todays society and aims to give a framework to schools in order to improve and cope with childrens emotional and behavioural needs.
behaviour management book
I am currently studying behaviour management as a module for my M Ed. I got this because my tutor was raving about it. This book is really good. Its easy read and clear to understand at any level of study (which is great for me as i don't like too much jargon). There are plenty of books out there that you need a dictionqary to read. Referencing is simple. Talks about theories of behaviour management and doesn't give strategies so if that what your looking for its not the book for you but Bill Rogers will be.
