Average customer review:Product Description
Probability is relevant to so many different subject areas that its importance as a mathematical technique cannot be underestimated. This book provides a comprehensive, user-friendly introduction to the subject. The step-by-step approach taken by the author allows students to develop knowledge at their own pace and, by working through the numerous exercises, they are ensured a full understanding of the material before moving on to more advanced sections. Traditional examples of probablistic theory, such as coins and dice, are included but the author has also used many exercises based on real-life problems. The result is an introduction to probability that avoids the overly confusing, theoretical approach often adopted in this area, and provides a simple and concise text that will be invaluable to all studying first and second year courses on the subject.

Customer Reviews
It covers the whole lot!
I am currently using this book to guide me through a university module on probability, and it is just fantastic! It goes through everything you could possibly need to know, and explains it clearly without assuming previous knowledge, and also without sounding patronising. You can actually read it cover to cover (if anyone would actually want to!!) If you find yourself on a probability course, I seriously recommend this book. The only fault I can see is that some of the answers to the more complex problems are not given.
Oh! Statstastic!!!
Fantastic! You know, before I read this i just COULDN'T COPE!!! I was jumping around the room waving my arms in funny ways as a result of this. But after I read this book, I saw the light. Life IS worthwhile. Thanks a lot John McColl! Highly recommended, particularly for those people with a nervous disposition when it comes to probability such as myself! Can't wait for the sequel!!!
Makes the Subject Very Easy to Understand
I struggled to understand probability at University, and I wish I'd had this book to help. It takes you through the theorems with easy to understand examples. It covers all of the ground which I would imagine to be on a probability course as part of a maths degree, and certainly that would have been the case for myself, although I suppose that a pure statistics course would have more of an experimental and practical bias. Nevertheless, there are a large number of example problems which are used to illustrate the application of the theory. I would thoroughly recommend this book.
