Contains a lot of useful material in a user-friendly style.5
This is a nice, friendly book which nevertheless contains a substantial amount of useful vocabulary. The basic approach is to present vocabulary and grammar in a series of topic-based dialogues, written in Greek followed by grammar explanations and exercises. The dialogues contain nicely colloquial expressions, and are pleasant to reread for fluency practice. I would make three slight criticisms: An English translation of each dialogue would be useful, as one learns more having to recall vocabulary rather than being reminded of words and phrases by the Greek text. A grammar index would be useful. The exercises could be more extensive, and perhaps involve more drilling of grammatical forms. A more major criticism regards the cassette. It contains too many instructions in English, when a simple recording of the Greek texts would have been sufficient. Overall, however, the book is very enjoyable to work through and return to often for further practice, as well as giving a substantial amount of material. It is good value for money (book only, not the cassette.)

Excellent book5
I am teaching my English boyfriend Greek and I have found this book a great help. He would not have been able to learn without it. However I did not buy the cassette since I read to him.

Nice as an introduction to the language4
But not to be taken as a complete course as it claims to be. Probably the best book a beginner can get.
