A readable but somewhat biased introduction
The book is a good introduction to the subject, short, concise and easy to read. However, in some places it is clearly apologetic towards communism: the ruthless collectivisation of agriculture was simply "unpopular among the peasants"; the author even hails communism for "building an industrial base very quickly" (p. 61) - not a word about the foreceful transfer of population, the environmental hasards and economic exploitation involved. As long as the reader keeps a critical eye on the text, the book is of some use.
