Synopsis
Sally Trench's task was to get children out of the war-torn country and adopted by British and American families, or failing that, to get food, medicine and other supplies into the worst affected areas. This autobiographical account tells the moving story of civil war in Bosnia, written through the eyes of a fictional child.

A touching story of how Fran copes, when confonted with war.5
When 12 year old Fran is told of war in her country she never believes it will reach her small village where everything is so perfect and peaceful. However, when her parents begin to argue as do neighbours, Fran and her friends begin to suspect something bad is about to happen.

When the soldiers reach her village she, her mother and father and a fellow family hide in the cellar of Fran's house. However one day Fran ventures out to find water...

Fran and her friends venture on through good times and more often bad ones.

This is a truly moving book, you really feel for Fran and her friends and understand how brave they were at confronting war.

I believe this is a truly essential book for anyone who enjoys histiry, or actually just anyone!
