Review
I would whole-heartedly recommend to every department and probably to every student too the updated Practice in Physics. This is an excellent book, with a fantastic wealth of questions to develop confidence and understanding. It is expanded from the last edition to include a really useful section called "practising calculations" and one on synoptic questions. (TES )
The previous editions of this book have been used very successfully...The new edition presents the questions in a more accessible format with many questions better structured..... Practice in Physics is an excellent support text for AS/A2 level students.... A class set or an individual copy for the student would be an excellent investment. (Physics Education Journal )
Customer Reviews
an excellent book for practicing questions
This book covers all the topics encountered at Alevel in the form of questions which differ in difficulty. All the answers are at the back and if you work through the questions in detail your guaranteed to improve your final grade.
Does what it says
An excellent book for those needing consolidation in key areas of physics. This is *not* an orthodox textbook, but rather page upon page of questions for you to grind through (with negligible guidance), thereby enabling you to raise your proficiency while highlighting careless error. Moreover, and unlike many modern textbooks, the answers in the back are usually right (certainly by this printing). Used in conjunction with other study textbook [such as Dobson (et al), Mee (et al), Adams and Allday, or - if you're feeling brave - the monochrome meatiness of Muncaster] this will set you up nicely for A-level. 'Calculations in A-level Physics' is also a good book if you want lots of questions to work through, but is less 'full-on' than 'Practice...' and not quite as well laid out in places as one would hope. I therefore recommend 'Practice' highly: it does exactly what it says. There was some concern a while back that it was going out of print, but I hope this was just a rumour: there's really nothing else on the market that quite hits the spot like this text.
