French Language Studies
...a comprehensive and reliable grammar...
Review
...focuses on those aspects of French grammar known to cause difficulties for English-speaking learners of French. It uses an up-to-date approach with modern terminology, but takes care to ensure that all terms and ideas are clearly explained. Students and teachers alike will find that it does an excellent job. (Professor R. A. Lodge, University of St. Andrews, )
This book is a major contribution to reference works on French grammar. (Francophonie )
...a comprehensive and reliable grammar... (French Language Studies )
'What I particularly like about this book is the fact that its explanations are rooted in current research on spoken and written French discourse. In addition, it provides students with a variety of tools that they can use to make different types of analogies and generalizations; the acquisition of such tools allows them to continue the acquisition process well beyond any course.'
(Nadine DiVitro, Director of Romance Language Programs, University of Chicago )

Customer Reviews
Brilliant: Thorough, well structured, clear and readable.
As an intermediate French student I have found this book to be invaluable as a reference.
Although I don't think it is meant to be used as a main textbook I find it possible to read it as such.
I have never looked for something and not found it and the examples are well laid out and pretty exhaustive.
In short I have never been happier with any language purchase.
Simple to follow with easy explanations of grammer rules
This book is excellent with simple explanations of the grammer rules and plenty of good examples of the rules in action.
Fantastic
I'm a final year French Studies student and I love this book! At this stage everyone expects you to know all of the rules and this book has been a great help to me. I would say it is a book for the more advanced student, intermediate and above. For complete beginners I would recommend the BBC French grammer book, which I own as well and they are both brilliant.
