Review
A detailed analysis of the period post 1900. Very comprehensible and readable. New themes are developed in an informative manner. I enjoyed reading the text. (A Regan, South Devon College )

Customer Reviews
Great reading and an excellent overview of the period
First of all, this book is comprehensive and great for dipping into whilst writing an essay - to find the facts you need - as it proceeds in chronological order, having a section for each of the governments in the period.
The book is also great for just dipping into anytime, as Lynch's prose is brief, lucid, and clear. Unusually for a history book, it's actually quite interesting reading. Uncommon terms are put in bold text and explained in the margin, saving you from having to look them up. The book also holds the reader's attention by including relevant but interesting - sometimes amusing - quotes or facts.
If you're buying the book for exam revision, the end of each chapter contains advice on answering both source- and essay-based questions on the period dealt with in the chapter, as well as some sample questions and a list of books for further reading. However, these are quite brief, and this book isn't for you if you're looking for exam practice.
But then again, success in history exams depend upon your knowledge of the facts, and this book will definitely give you the facts without boring you to death in the process. I am yet to find a better overview of the period.
Clear but *very* basic
As an introductory text for AS level History, this well-presented book has some value. It is clear and contains some relevant tasks. But it must be backed up by considerably more detailed texts, as it provides nothing but the barest skeleton of events and interpretation
