Customer Reviews

TYV is a fascinating journey of discovery!5
Written with both the layperson and scientist in mind, TYV is a clear and entertaining account surrounding the life of volcanoes. The first chapters cover the morphology and behaviour of volcanoes - why they look and behave the way they do - bringing them alive as one reads. Then the author delves into the various hazards imposed by eruptions, their effect on climate and the monitoring techniques used by volcanologists. Ancient, historic and recent eruptions are discussed, including accounts of those who have experienced the awesome power of our only link to the infernal depths of our planet. Aspects of living with volcanoes, surviving an eruption and the politics behind warnings/evacuations are covered. It also looks at volcanoes on other planets... and much, much more. References are given for places to visit as well as website links. This book is a treasure of information. An unfolding drama! I couldn't put this book down, and it has introduced me to an awesome aspect of our planet ... and beyond - the journey never ends.
