Editorial Reviews

Review

I feel that a major strength of the book is its firm commitment to an holistic approach to the study of the early years. This approach is crucially important if we want to discover and examine the real essence of early childhood.

Customer Reviews

Easy to read & covers wide scope of subjects4
This is one of the easiest books to read on this subject (and I have read quite a few). It is broken down into 16 key chapters - each of which is a piece in it's own right. Well written, clear & very gentle to the reader, yet is full of information & starting points to take your studies or interests further. VERY GOOD. I personally used it to aid my degree studies (it's not a named book that I am aware of - but is very good to have to hand)

Essential reading for anyone with an interest in children.5
Early Childhood Studies by Taylor et al is a truly holistic introduction to the subject of children's development and their place in society. It looks at every issue concerning children, from a soiological and historical perspective, right through to health, law, welfare, education and even children in developing countries. It can be utilised at degree or research level, by secondary students or people that may just enjoy a well researched, well balanced and informative read.

The editors of this publication have all had first hand knowledge and experience of children in various professional capacities as well as being lecturers teaching this subject. Therefore they are very well qualified to produce such an authoritative publication.

I would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to study this subject or who wants to use the book as a stepping-stone to other, more specialised publications.

Excellent general book that covers all areas of childhod.4
I'm at the moment studying at an Early Childhood Studies degree and found this book extremely helpful. I bought it after hearing about it through a friend. Its chapter on Child Protection explained those confusing details that will bother anyone concerned with children and set stright the guidelines and signs to look for and follow. An excellent resource for anyone in a similar situation to myself.
