Product Description

Revised and updated to meet the needs of A2 students following the new Edexcel specification, this textbook is divided into two units. The first nine chapters describe and explain the material of Unit 4: Rates, equilibria and further organic chemistry. The next five chapters cover the material for Unit 5: Transition metals, arenes and organic nitrogen chemistry.
Chapter 1 will also help students with kinetic experiments likely to be encountered in Unit 6 — the internal assessment of practical skills, Chapter 10 with practical assessments on redox titrations, Chapter 11 with assessed practicals on transition metal compounds and Chapter 14 with organic analysis assessments.
Guidance on exam technique and sample exam-style questions, together with graded answers and detailed commentaries, are provided online. This resource also includes end-of-chapter review questions, devised to assist and test learning, and practice unit tests, which are ideal for exam preparation.
Edexcel A2 Chemistry includes the following special features:
n Examiner’s notes — invaluable content guidance and exam advice
n Worked examples — detailed explanations of calculations to facilitate understanding

This comprehensive, highly accessible, exam-focused text is essential reading for all Edexcel A2 Chemistry students.
Answers to all review questions and practice unit tests are provided in an accompanying Teacher Guide, which is available for purchase by teachers.

Customer Reviews

Very, very good, though not the ideal revision book4
Considering there are no Edexcel-specific textbooks (apart from those awful NAS books, which leave you more confused than you already were), this book is a gem. It's aesthetically very pleasing, presented in full colour along with frequent diagrams. The explanations are unambiguous and the clear presentation supplements this.

I had two problems with this book, however. One is the lack of answers - without them, the practice questions and paper become somewhat useless (unless you can persuade a nice enough teacher to mark them for you). Another is that Facer sometimes goes a little overboard with the non-syllabus material, so that it becomes a tad long-winded and you may feel overwhelmed at the amount of information presented. Thus, this textbook is probably best suited to the initial learning process rather than the final revision period.

The bible for A2 Edexcel Chemistry students!5
For anybody taking Edexcel Chemistry at A2-level, this book is a must-have. The standard issue NAS books (those skimpy green things) are awful: they are full of incoherent detail and poor explanations. This book, by George Facer, is clear and concise and sticks exactly to the Edexcel A2 syllabus (there are some areas in which Facer goes off-syllabus but this is indicated in the text and can be easily ignored). I appreciated how the book was organised in sections which complemented the syllabus, making revision effective and easy. George Facer uses model-answer definitions and provides down-to-earth and easy-to-understand explanations of all the key concepts. The sample questions and mock exams are perfect and accurate of the actual difficulty found within the exam papers. The full colour and user-friendly layout make this the best Chemistry book produced. Boost your A2 grade and get this book! Don't waste your time with the NAS books unless you can understand their awful style.

First of all, I hate to say it but WHSmith are selling this for £16.00, but they are book specialists I guess.

Second of all, considering the price, you would think this book would have been read through once or twice by editors, well it is packed with mistakes.
Not just little mistakes, serious mistakes that if your already finding Chemistry difficult can really confuse you.

However, if the book had no mistakes it would definitely be my choice of book as it is detailed but to the point with not just bare writing on every page.

Perhaps wait for another edition or just buy this one with mind that some of it is wrong.
