Customer Reviews
Good book
The text is vell presented. It has good illustrative diagrams. The only disadvantage is that there are no answers. Today the publishers must provide answers to the questions in the book and this gives students and teachers an idea of how some questions are to be answered. Include answers on the site and this will be useful.
I am a lecturer and I have seen a lot of books used in the US with notes and answers and there are very useful for faculty to guide students.
This book was perfect for me
I dropped sciences in school aged 14 because I was lazy and found languages much easier. Now aged 52 I regret the decision and want to learn about physics. This book is excellent! I read every chapter and found it more difficult to put down than an Ian McKewan novel and hugely informative. I now plan to work through the exercises and test questions (the answers ARE supplied in this edition) to learn the subjects in more detail.
The only drawback I can see is that a lot of the experiments described need apparatus which you won't find in your home unless you share a house with a crazy, white bearded professor so if you want to take the exam then you need to attend a class. However, I suspect that this is due to the nature of the subject rather than any shortcomings of the book.
The language used is clear and examples and illustrations are contemporary and interesting making it easy to follow.
The book made me want to take a course but there are none available near me so I can't comment on how useful it is as an accompanying text but for somebody with an interest in learning more about the subject it is superb.
John Murray's Books are the best in Science
I Believe that most of the books pulished by John Murray in general are the best. They explain topics more efficient than teachers in school. I read their books and got two A's in Chemistry, and Biology . While others got A*'s.That is why i wanted to buy their physics books to get high grades. Some books became meaningless to me compared to These books.I even became more loving to read books to enjoy.
