On the face of it, Ben Bradford is your standard Wall Street hot shot - Junior partner in a legal firm, 6 figure income, wife and two young kids straight out of a Gap catalogue. But along with the WASP lifestyle comes the sting - Ben hates it. He wants - has always wanted - to be a photographer. When he discovers his wife is playing outside the ground, the conseqences of a moment of madness force him to question not just the design of his life but the price of fulfiment. Because finding yourself means nothing when you're pretending to be someone else. From the picket fences of yuppie New England to Montana's untouchable splendour, THE BIG PICTURE spans states and states of mind in a thrilling novel of genuine originality.

Fantastic book!
I bought this book on a recommendation and I wasn't disappointed. I found myself picking it up at every available opportunity (I LOVE books that make me not want to put them down).
This is the story of a stressed out Wall Street Lawyer in Manhattan who is married with 2 young sons and very disillusioned with his life. He has always longed to be a photographer and regrets the way his life has ended up. By complete accident (I won't spoil it) his life turns upside down in a split second and he finds himself on the run and taking on a new identity. Does his dream of having a new life match the reality?
You won't be disappointed with this book; it's very readable and makes you want to keep turning the pages well into the night. Enjoy
Arrrggh! This book...
There were so many things I hated about this book. How once I picked it up I just couldn't put it down, how I could never pass by without picking it up, how it kept me up until the small hours of the morning when I should have been asleep, how I kept thinking about the story when I should have been doing something else.
But the thing I hated most was how it made me feel. How I felt as if I was accompanying Ben Bradford every step of the way, how my stomach churned with nerves every time I turned the page... I don't think I've ever felt such sympathy and emotion for a fiction character and it's a tribute to Douglas Kennedy's awesome writing skills that made me feel this way.
Of course, I didn't really hate this book. I loved it and now I've finished it...
I read it at such a fast pace that it took me just 2 days but I know I could have sat down and read it straight through without once looking up.
This is his third book I've read and luckily my withdrawal symptoms won't be that bad as I have "State of the Union" sitting waiting for me...
The Big Picture by Douglas Kennedy
Quite simply one of the best books you will ever read. A fast flowing story, superbly written. I have read all of his novels, all of which are excellent, but this one is the best. Read it you will not be disappointed.
