A.Longstaff is a true pro!!5
This book, put simply, is a truely valuable book to anyone studying neuroscince. Although many may find the contents of the book difficult to understand at first glance, Longstaff carefully and skillfully guides the reader by using a short, sharp and concise approach. Although I think a more detailed book is needed for any serious neuro stduents, this is an excellent study tool for first and second year undergards. Having said that though, i will be regarding this as my 'bible' during my final year neurophysiology class!...

An Excellent Introduction to the world of Neuroscience.5
Luckily for me as a first year Biology student, A.Longstaff is my lecturer for Human Physiology. After only just starting to read his book, the style in which he portrays the information needed is as good as if he was there lecturing in person. An excellent guide for quick and easy reference to what can be quite a "difficult to grasp" area of science!!

deserves a prize5
I did a 10 week course in neurophysiology in year 3 of my degree course.
This book, as well as some of the big glossy books (e.g. Bear , Kandel) were available in the library. When the course was over I bought my own copy of this book from Amazon (£12.97 at the time) just to have it on my bookshelf although I will not be going any further in neuroscience as a career (probably - still seeking a job.) I have thought for a long time that there should be prizes for the best textbooks as there are for fiction and this book would certainly be among my recommendations. The range of topics is wider than that covered on my course (which is good) and each topic is done in a "drill down" fashion, that is the main points are summarised then each point is expanded upon.
Each topic has only as much material as you could reasonably expect to memorise and the text is clear and the diagrams are simple enough to be reproducible in an exam. The author manages to say much in a few words and while he is learned in his field he has also made a big effort to make this book understandable. Well done.
