a good all round history of the usa
this is very detailed and informative, but it is written in quite a dry manner, which, if you like your history in that way, is great, but for me, it did not really bring the events to life. a great book to buy as an overview (but a comprehensive overview) of american history from the beginning up until the present day. the book is written largely looking at american history using the theme of freedom, which does make for an interesting read.
